A Snowy Walk Through Muskego County Park

Three hours into the latest snowfall, I took a hike through the trails at Muskego County Park. I felt a sense of peace and tranquility. The trees and falling snow have an insulation effect that makes it incredibly quiet in there.

Muskego County Park is a hidden gem in our community. It’s a place where you can escape some of the mundane routines of life and though-by-thought reduce the clutter in your head.

The trees are bare, their leaves replaced by a layer of frost. The ground is white with some footprints from a couple of people and a couple of dogs that passed before me. It’s a reminder that just as the seasons change, so too does our life.

I’m so grateful for this park, a place where I can come to relax, reflect, and connect with nature.

Some tips for making the most of your winter walk:

  • Dress warmly in layers. My body temperature rose during the walk and it was nice to take off a hat, jacket, and gloves.
  • Wear good boots with ankle support. You’ll want to have traction on the snow and ice. There are a lot of spots where you can twist an ankle!
  • Be careful of icy patches. Walk slowly and carefully, especially if you’re using walking poles.
  • Enjoy the scenery! Take some time to appreciate the beauty of the winter landscape.
  • Leave the music and podcasts behind. Let silence be what fills your ears!
