The Greatest Investment You Can Make Isn't Real Estate—It's Your Time
I spend a lot of time analyzing numbers, forecasting market trends, and strategically mapping out long-term wealth. Real estate equity is a powerful tool for your next chapter. But there is one asset far more valuable than the property you
own: your time.
I'll admit, there was a season where I didn't mind cutting the grass. At one point, it even became my own personal
retreat—a 30-minute escape to listen to audiobooks and podcasts. But getting out the mower every week started feeling
less like a Zen exercise and more like an endless, repetitive chore. At this point in my life, I want more options with my time and to be in control of whether I actually need to spend it on yard work.
We want to stay in our home for a while longer, so from a strategic standpoint, I looked into automating the routine.
That analytical perspective led me to buy a "time machine" that happens to be a robot lawnmower, specifically the
Mammotion LUBA 2 AWD
Mini back in 2025.
If you haven’t seen where robotic lawn care is today, let me assure you: these aren't the erratic, bouncing, oversized
hockey pucks of five years ago. This piece of hardware is built for efficiency and strategic automation. Now that I have
a full year of real-world use on my own property under my belt, here is my perspective on why it has earned its keep:
- No Underground Wires to Bury: Historically, the barrier to entry with these devices was
trenching a wire around your entire yard. Frankly, if I wanted to dig trenches all weekend, I'd grab a shovel.
The LUBA uses RTK-GPS and a 3D vision system, meaning my setup was
entirely digital. - Remote Operation & FPV: Setting boundaries was surprisingly
simple. I mapped my yard by driving the unit using the First-Person View (FPV) camera through the app on my
phone. It felt a bit like playing a simple video game, but instead of scoring points, I was drawing invisible
property lines. Even better, I don't have to be home to start a cut or check the live FPV feed - Coverage & Runtime: My .48-acre lot (including the house footprint) takes about 3.5 hours
to cut entirely. Since the battery lasts around 3 hours, the mower autonomously returns to its base to recharge
before picking right back up where it left off to finish the job. - Multiple Obstacle Detection Sensors: I specifically needed a machine that could navigate a
complex yard: trees, rock edging, fences, an outdoor gazebo, and—most importantly—my wife's precious flowers. It
dodged all of them with agile precision. The dual-camera vision system actively mapped the terrain in real-time
without missing a beat. - Unmatched Slope Handling: My yard has more than just a few awkward inclines. I needed a mower
that could seamlessly climb a 30-degree slope. The All-Wheel Drive tackles this steep, uneven terrain that would
have easily stalled competing models. - Systematic Mowing: Instead of random bouncing, it cuts in logical, efficient stripes, leaving a
meticulously pristine pattern on the lawn that would make a professional groundskeeper proud. - Multi-Zone Management: I can effortlessly command it to handle different sections of the yard
or ignore specific "no-go" zones depending on the week. - Quiet Operation: It operates so quietly that I routinely run it early in the morning without
worrying about waking anyone up. - Lawn Health: The mulching capability naturally fertilizes the grass as it goes. Over time, my
lawn actively looks healthier.
To be fully transparent, no piece of technology is without its friction points. I experienced a few frustrating moments
when the app connectivity dropped out during my initial setup.
On one occasion when I needed support for a software quirk, dealing with their automated AI chatbots felt a bit too much like trying to have a conversation with a
broken calculator.
The minor setup hurdle is vastly outweighed by the time I reclaim. By my estimate, spending 35 minutes mowing every 7
days from May 1st through October 21st amount to recovering almost 15 hours of my life every single year.
Automating the mundane isn't just about avoiding chores; it’s about giving yourself the bandwidth to actually enjoy the
equity you've built in your life. Get busy living!
